Extra Money | Hart County Elections Office Allocated Extra Money For Election Season
HARTWELL “The Hart County Registrar’s Office will receive an extra $18,000 to pay staff overtime for the upcoming election season.
The County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to increase the county registrar’s office budget for fiscal year 2011-12, which ends in October. The extra money will come from the county general fund.
Besides the state’s presidential primary on March 6, other primaries will happen in July in Georgia. Runoff elections may be required in March and/or July.
Hart County Registrar Libby Forbes appeared before the board of commissioners Tuesday to request the extra money.
Commissioner Brandon Johnson said the law requires that no less than three staffers be in the registrar’s office during early and absentee voting. Forbes said Superintendent of Elections Bob Smith has also requested at least three staffers during election time.
“Right now, Bob Smith has asked that we not have less than two (staffers) in there while we’re mailing out ballots,” Forbes said. “I don’t like to have anything to go out in the mail or
